Welcome to the SB 47: Tesla Station

What happens when a new star system begins to form near a very large starbase? What if that starbase is in the patrol zone of an extremely successful Task Force, Task Force 47, in Obsidian Fleet?

What do you do? Normally, you wouldn’t change your base of operations to said “brainiac” station. Normally, you wouldn’t transfer he Commanding Officer of a tiny Nova class vessel to oversee a staff of thousands safeguarding of a newly forming solar system from pirates and mercenaries...

But these aren’t normal times.

Why? Why would the federation send the screwballs from the tiniest ship in the fleet to run one of the largest and most strategic stardocks? A crew that has either killed or lost members of their crew in every mission they've (which they usually failed at) in the one and a half years of their existence together?

Because they're a team. They rely on each other. They work with each other. They take their pride in the ability to get the job done, even if the job seems impossible. Who else but a team that thinks creatively .. together?

Skunkworks... Gold Rush... with a little Steampunk thrown in. Electrifying!

Starbase 47 is a seemingly “run of the mill” station but under her enormous facade lies the secrets of Starfleet’s newest technologies. She is the skunkworks, the future, the home of mad science and the harbor for those that have a little too much brains and not enough instinct for self preservation.

Get your goggles... we've got some seriously mad science to get to...

Welcome to Tesla Station.

I. Command Staff OOC Addresses

Salvete!

Well, thanks to Trent (aka Sally) there's been an article on about our new "Drive Thru WIndow feature" on Tesla. Of course, he's a real stinker and managed to get cheese in.

It was a pretty decent week for posts, the plots are starting to percolate around. We have a new member as well, the USS Swiftsure has a new 2XO, welcome aboard to Chen "Karin" who will be serving under Radcliffe.

What's up? Well, we surpassed last month's posts and that's what I was hoping for with all of the LOAs and lesser activity. If we can maintain this pace, a nice steady postcount will sustain us over the long run.

We begin July with a a smile. Why Jaynie? Because by the third week of July, our SIM in both its Galileo and Tesla combined incarnations will hit the 2 year mark. That's a great accomplishment! I'll be reminiscing more over the next month, pulling out some old chestnuts along the way. So, if you are a long standing crewbie, and you have something to say -- drop me a PM.

Something is currently wrong with the command mailing list so please just send it directly via PM.

Jason is headed out to Germany for a week so please contact me directly if you need command questions answered and I will pawn them off ... I mean address them appropriately.

Curate ut valeatis,

Jaynie

P.S. I went to a lecture this week about biodiversity and sustainability and the hippy wannabees were all talking about Humanure but the guy who was actually the hippy -- the bald old man who'd been a long haired Berkeley hippy in the sixties, and was a soil scientist looked at them and said, "You mean Poop." See, I agree, call it what it is.

==========

I'm excited that we passed the 60 mark this week in posts. See the above referenced big surprise. I'll be out of touch this week traveling to Germany. I keep telling Jaynie I'll be close enough to lob things at the Belgian. Inside joke for those of you who've been around that long.

I'll return, hopefully, to an overflowing box of wonderful prose. In keeping with the spirit of travel, and pride month, I offer you this hilarious way to tell if your flight attendant is gay.

Regards,
Jason/Raul

Salvete Slackers!

I'm not a complainer, a slave driver or whatnot but there are posts languishing to the death.

I understand people have lives. So do I. If you are looking to post, in any way... get on the horn to the tesla-command@syrenmuse.com email list asap and ask for something to do or for clarification. OR email directly to the OOC list. That's how we get it all done, we have the OOC list to plan ideas and plots. Click the OOC button on the main menu bar at the top of the page.

There is plenty to do to react to the mess. In fact, if you have a mess you've been assigned to and would like to spread the mess around, JP it with someone! We like to get messy.

Just a note, CMO is now the 'acting' CMO Dubai. Our beloved Lewelyn nee T'Lin for those around long enough to remember her as our counselor will be taking the NPC Akkadian character into full PC mode now. Yay!

Crewbies, got a friend? Recruit! I'll give you a ribbon.

Jason is off for the summer, which means he has PLENTY of time to JP.

Remember and always remember... Books are for Dummies

Curate ut vuleatis,
Jaynie

P.S. In a recent survey of American adults, 90% of respondents could NOT find Belgium on a map of Europe (50% selected France, and 40% chose Rand-McNally). Even worse, when asked "What is Belgium?", 75% picked "The University of Wisconsin - Madison football team".

==========

My fellow citizens,

It is with great pleasure that I get to create the mission report each week, as it forces me to take more than a cursory glance at the goings-on of this SIM. It's a way to really focus my ADHD and get something done--it also makes me appreciate the hard work that Jaynie and those who have been XO before me have done to create this fabulous world we call our story.

It takes a lot of work involving multiple people to get a plot going, and lots of behind-the-scenes action. I learned this about 8 years ago when I commanded a sub-SIM with Jaynie--a colony on the planet the starbase (the main sim) orbited. What fun!

I said all that to say this--are you giving 100%? For us, that means one quality post per week unless on approved LOA. That, folks, helps keep the story going. I love writing with each of you, and I can't wait for what the next mission holds.

Regards,
Jason/Raul

P.S., ever wondered if your neighbors are gay? This may help. The circuit-party like music and glittery spire at the end just make me tingle.

Jason/Raul

VI. Quotable Quotes:

Mmm, smores!
Liz shook the ensign's hand. "Sorry you get to be thrown directly into the fire." Liz remembered her favorite professor's test of engineering ability and decided to try it with Sykes.
--Elizabeth Jones

This falls under the "I do not recall" category of evasive answers
"I will just have Captain Stark order you into a dangerous situation," Raul deadpanned, and returned to the bedside where Mark lay.
--Raul Kerano

StarkMobile offers 1500 minutes for $49.99/monthly, 2 year contract required.
"Brilliant," Diana tapped her badge, "Stark to Roskilly, I'm leaving my office and going mobile, I'll be on call and will fill you in shortly."
--Diana Stark

I guess it's better than being a retard.
"For one, stop feeling so sorry for yourself," Stella snapped irritably. She hated it when people would not take stock of their own actions. It was almost despicable. "You're being a pleurard."

I. Command Staff OOC Addresses

Salvete,

Seems we're well on our way to repair thanks to the crack engineering crew. There are a few people who still have not chimed in yet so I believe I need to remind you of the SIM Rule of 1 quality post per week. By quality it should be in some way connected to the plot or plots you are currently partaking in that are mission related (and of course not be one paragraph or we shall mock you). We have one main plot right now, that is the big hole. The other is one beginning with the Fury's plot which will be a subplot for now and then turn into the main plot once the hole is well in hand. OK that came out wrong.

Once that subplot turns into a main plot we'll start on another plot which is already hatching (planwise) with the command staff. Your current command staff is me, Jason and Ange. You can contact us with ideas at tesla-command@syrenmuse.com Ideas are good!

Midstrata of command is the department head middle management layer. Department heads are meant to run their departments like mini-sims in that you need to get your department integrated with the others, deliver quality posts, find a few lackeys (RL friends are good). There's nothing better than a few crew in one department working cross-departmentally.

Special Announcement: A level 2 Award in Obsidian is one that must be approved by the Awards Director. It is nominated by the CO. In this case, it was the entire command staff. If you want to nominate a crewmember for one, just let Command know which one by emailing the tesla-command list. You can find the awards listed at the Awards Page on OFHQ Which award was given? Check the Awards section of the Mission Report!

There's a new Engineering tech in town, Kit Sykes (shhh don't tell her about Mike & Kat). Be gentle, she's never SIMmed before. Under Jed's careful tutelage, she should be just fine!.

Welcome back to Ratty! That persnickety, cantankerous crazy female Klingon. This time, Ratty will form her line in Medical. Speaking of which, Medical will be having a change in leadership as our current wonderwoman steps down to do more work as our resident Ambassador (to become a PC) from the Steampunk planet Akkadia. Dubai will be elevated to CMO (and she has the rank in the OF database to warrant it -- Madeline has been played consecutively for over three years).

A big hidey Ho to Sutton. I've known this player for a looong time. In fact, he's one of the few I've actually met real life. I know him well *ahems* and trust him implicitly with the Security & Tactical department. I've known Sutton almost as long as Kitrin and Raul. I met Sutton while fantasy RPing in the Wheel of Time genre. Bastard never became my warder! But then I sucked him into Trek RP and he's been at it on and off ever since. Ask him about it (;

I have rambled enough. Go watch some Trek and have a giggle.

Curate ut vuleatis,
Jaynie
==========

Hola,

Welcome to Kit Sykes, Doug (my replacement at Security), and welcome BACK to Ratty! That's all I have for you today. If you are lost and don't know what to post, PLEASE email me and I will help you determine an appropriate task. Let's have a great week!

Jason/Raul

II. Promotions/Awards/Academy Report

Promotions: None
Awards:

Here they are! Drum roll, please...
Professional Merit - Lieutenant Commander Anderson Dower
Air Medal - Lieutenant Ashley Lysander

Outstanding Volunteer Award - Lieutenant Commander Raul Kerano

Captain's Personal Merit - Lieutenant Commander William Bainbridge

Obsidian Fleet Distinguished Service Cross - Lieutenant Elizabeth Jones
Obsidian Fleet Distinguished Service Cross - Lieutenant JG Tenara Zel
Obsidian Fleet Distinguished Service Cross - Lieutenant Madeline Dubai
Obsidian Fleet Distinguished Service Cross - Lieutenant Ashley Lysander
Obsidian Fleet Distinguished Service Cross - Lieutenant JG John Kelly
Obsidian Fleet Distinguished Service Cross - Lieutenant JG Alan Difienbacker
Obsidian Fleet Distinguished Service Cross - Lieutenant JG Noelle Bennett

Last, but not least, the "OF Level 2" Scheherezade Award goes to Marilyn, the player behind Arafel, Allynda, and Avanell!

Named after the mythical heroine of the Arabian Nights, the Scheherezade awards the intricate story-crafting which is displayed within Obsidian fleet. This goes beyond simple matters of spelling, grammar, and legibility; rather, it is for the obvious effort put into posts to make them enjoyable to read for all members of a platform and not just as enjoyment for the writers who created them – for telling a tale within a tale as they weave their own story within the greater plot of their SIMM.

This award is an extension of the Level 1 Library Excellence Ribbon: the Scheherezade is awarded for use of excellent language for artistic purposes and not just for the sake of making language more complex. It focuses more on the intent, but also on the successful writing, of supreme quality posts.

As nominated by the command staff:
"The player for Arafel ferch Llewelyn has worked diligently in the world creation for the Akkadian race in PG1x sytem. Not only has she helped in the world creation and was instrumental in developing a viable system but her posts accompanying those of the CO and solo for this race have been tremendous. We want to hear about Allynda Al Warrquim of the Akkadians, a Guildmistress of the Guild of Knowledge.

Allynda is a full representation of an anachronistic algorithm caught in our time and trying to make heads or tails of what she sees. The parallels of Trek tech to Steampunk tech are often hilarious and at the same time she will make you weep for the soulless of our society.

This award is a long time coming and is fully endorsed by the entire command staff of Starbase 47: Tesla Station.

Congratulations!!

I. Command Staff OOC Addresses

Salvete,

Once upon a time...

I thought I'd tell you a story. But then I thought... I want to hear yours. I want to know your stories. Tell me something about your character that I don't know, this week, in your post. Tell me something you didn't know about your character. It doesn't have to be bad. In fact, sometimes when crisis strikes, we remember a time that can give us strength, or maybe we push away a painful memory. Let's all try this week to tell each other something about our character that makes us like them more, whether it is through vulnerability or strength. Solo posts are up there. We don't see enough of them lately so don't wait, this is a challenge you can do alone (or with a disposable NPC).

Now, onto the good news. The Weekly Staff meetings are really working to keep me and the rest of the command staff motivated. However, I see some departments are having trouble still getting into the storyline. I expect that'll change as this week's challenge is taken up.

I expect a lot from myself. I sometimes forget to share the load. I learned an important piece about command that I had forgotten. Delegation. I used to do it very well but ... I got out of the habit, burned out and that's why now I have a brilliant XO / 2XO team that keeps me on my toes and helps me with everything. Remember to contact us just email tesla-command@syrenmuse.com (and send your Department Head weekly reports).

I also want to commend Bainbridge for his support of this station through the thin times including the last CO of this station's demise. Whenever I start to falter I think -- Bainbridge has been through this before and I can't let him down!

I have chatted enough. Go post!

Curate ut vuleatis,
Jaynie

P.S. - Brussels' biggest tourist attraction is a statue of a boy pissing.

Hola,

Firstly, I didn't greet you in Spanish because Raul is Spanish. It's a habit. Raul is Argentinian. He's from the Pampas. In the south, we have that grass, and it catches fire really eas--....I'm rambling. Welcome to the weekly column of hilarity.

This week's best technical writing log goes to Rose (Dubai) and Ange (Reese/Melanie/Simon) for their backpost of the autopsy. I felt like I was in the morgue with that weird guy from CSI. Not that you guys' characters remind me of old men or anything. Just saying.

If you hadn't noticed, Justin has decided to do away with his Dower character and replace him with Nikou, who is female, and should be a lot more fun. Raul won't have a problem with it as long as Carter doesn't go anywhere. ::pokes Justin:: RIGHT?

If you have any sim related questions, please contact me...I am officially on teacher summer vacation and have lots of time to do a whole lotta nothing. Check my character page for IM and email info.

See you next week, on this episode of Sesame Street Starbase, brought to you by the letter R and the number 1.

Better roughshod than to use the phrase rode hard and put away wet...
Exiting the office, Elsie Roskilly pondered to herself that it was possibly the first time since her petty officer days, that she had been rode roughshod so... elegantly. Sitting at her desk, the thoughts became audible, "Bitch. --Diana Stark as Elsie Roskilly (NPC)

I. Command Staff OOC Addresses

Salvete,

Thanks to Jason (aka Raul Kerano) this week all I have had to do was write you a letter. So, here goes...

There are some significant changes about to go on the station. First off, if you have NOT yet reacted to the big gaping hole in the side of the station, do it. If you aren't reacting, you aren't alive and you will get cut. How would your department react to such a thing? Your character? There are casualties, there will be losses of personnel, and grief, there will be confusion. We are running on auxiliary power so there will be a "war rationing" type of existence until everything gets put back into order. Turbos are on an as needed basis as are transporters. Security & Medical have highest priority for transporters but we are still at a majorly limited capacity until main power can be brought back online. Also, this may not have been mentioned in any post but it will be mentioned, the station's docking bay door is stuck halfway open. *snerk*

The most significant thing to remember is that ships cannot dock currently, they are not docked and were all evacuated. If you did not read Whoopsie Go Boom or even if you did, read it.

Next and most significantly is that there will be a changing of the guard. The plot gives us the opportunity for the command staff to switch hats around. So, Reese Kelly will step into the role of Chief of Operations while Rhys Monroe will be stepping back to Assistant Chief Operations officer. Our new XO will be Raul Kerano. We'll be doing some posts on this in the next few days to a week to nail it all down.

Lastly, reduce your carbon footprint... use Vegan Condoms

Curate ut vuleatis,
Jaynie
