Benny Brooks is a civilian and student at Mark Twain High School on Starbase 47.

Personality

Benny is a typical adolescent human--playful, fun, and well-liked. When the center of attention, he displays a good sense of humor and political skills to ensure that he remains well-liked. Practical jokes sometimes play a large part in his social success. Benny was once dismissed from preparatory school for several days for de-replicating the a friend's water glass at lunch, causing a food fight, that although fun, was the cause of campus-wide chaos. Typically, Benny has a sense of right and wrong as it applies to others (aside from jokes) and tries to take the moral high ground whenever possible.

Family Life

Benny was born in 2372 on Starbase 202 in the Codis Zeta system, where his parents were stationed as medical and engineering officers. Although his generational family is from and lives on Earth, Benny has spent no significant time there, except odd weeks or so of seasonal school breaks. As a child, he took after his mother, Michaela, and became fascinated with all things mechanical. The Brooks family comes from the old earth hovercar industry and this lent itself to Benny's prowess with tinkering, although it was not until the family eventually moved to a planetside location that he would be able to drive one.

When Benny was 5, Ben's service moved him to the Indefatigable, a Sovereign-class starship where families were not allowed. Michaela remained aboard Starbase 202 until 2379, when she and Benny moved the family's base of operations to Cestus III. When shipboard service ended, Benny was able to arrange for Maria DeMartino to ensure his next posting would be on the planet where he could have a home with his family.

On Cestus, as Benny reached his "tween" years, he and his father began to catch up after the years apart and spend time tinkering with the family's hovercar and spending time with a classmate from Pacifica who began to spark an interest in surfing in the young boy.

In 2386, his vacation canceled to meet with his father on special assignment, Benny and the rest of his family were horrified to learn that they would have to uproot themselves from Cestus and relocate to Starbase 47 at the order of Commodore Furyama, with whom Ben had served years before on the Indefatigable.

Benny did not take the transition well and is still unhappy on the inside, but has realized that he has no control over his motions at this point in his life. Two of the first people he befriended on the station were Brian DeAngelis and Vova Dudnik.

School Life

Benny was well liked by friends at school on Cestus as he was one of the students who attended the school in the Starfleet settlement when it was first opened--everyone knew everyone and for quite some time. Transitioning to Mark Twain High School on Tesla has been difficult for Benny, who is among hundreds of students instead of dozens. The school offers an Intergalactic Baccalaureate program which guarantees acceptance to prestigious universities with credit. Benny will be continuing his Engineering Systems studies in this program.

Hobbies

Benny is a hovercar lover, and is wondering how he will be able to continue this hobby on Tesla. Surfing with an old Earth-style board is the most popular pastime for the young boy, and it appears that the hobby will continue on the station in holosuites and the "E."
